he was your neighbour in that little picturesque town you both lived in, your mum's friend's annoying son who always seemed to be loitering around at your house

you thought your mum adopted him or smth bc why was he at your house more than his own?? — more under cut!!

you used to tease him about being homeless back in the days

but yk you two were best friends

but you and sunghoon kind of just drifted apart in high school after he moved during his freshman year at high school

you see his instagram posts sometimes, pictures of him out with his friends, jawline still jawlining

you sometimes even scroll down to his older posts where you are present in his photos, smiling next to him with a wide braces smile

but you never thought you would cross paths with park sunghoon again

that is, until university.

you walk into your first philosophy lecture and oh look there he is

park sunghoon sitting in one of the corners with his notebook looking like the exact definition of brooding intellectual

after the lecture, you're about to pack your stuff and leave as soon as you can but he just strides up to you with his obnoxiously long legs

you always hated his stupid long legs you always had to run to catch up

you're certain he walked faster on purpose to leave you behind

ANYWAYS sunghoon just says long time no see in that smooth voice of his.

he's polite, maybe a bit shy, but there's a hint of a smile on his face and it's almost like the years of not seeing each other disappears

you two start hanging out more- grabbing coffee together before 8AM morning lectures designed to kill university students, studying together in the library

your mum is also really happy to hear that you've met sunghoon

you always knew she liked him better than you.

but you guys only get closer on a fateful thursday morning as you’re making your way to your morning lecture

because sunghoon is standing in the courtyard with a baby kitten in his arms whilst panicking

ok but spending time with sunghoon isn't as hard as you thought it would be

but between kitten playdates and philosophy study sessions stuff start feeling kinda different HMMM

This amazed me and made me laugh.

For a generation that thinks it knows it all and especially among the new wave of analog photography lovers, to need a poster like this to inform them about what negatives are just blew me away.

And yeah, before I go on, unclench at least at one end, Boomers & Millennials, 'cuz we were just as know it all back in the day. (Boomers, remember how we thought we invented bell bottom pants? How we were the generation that would fix the world?)

I mean, I get why the newer generation of photographers need such posters, because to them film photography is new, but it just still blew me away that they (almost) worship at the altar of film photography and yet do not bother to delve in the facts of it. Well, truth be told, it is kinda like (Boomers, Millenials, or any of the new crop of Gens) buying a new product and not reading the instructions, which is something I never did or do...

Funny thing, though, the person behind the counter who laughed along with me at the need for the sign and who explained how often the younger photographers need to be told how negatives are part of the film print process and are needed for reproducing their images, unless the negatives were scanned, was young, by which I mean almost 50 years younger than me, as are most all the employees at Mike's Camera in Sacramento, with the one exception now being my camera guy, who is holding off retiring because, like me, he still enjoys his job, and also like me, he does not look his age, and bonus for him, unlike me, he is cool AF. And BTW, the young sales people who work with him all agree that he is cool AF.

So, just figured I'd share, because the poster made me laugh because I still recall I was young once, too, and thought I knew everything about how to be a famous photographer back when, over 40 years ago and then over 20 years ago, I tried my hand at photography with a DSLR. I also laughed because, as I told the person who gave me my prints of my digital photography, I recalled getting contact sheets back in my attempts at film photography, and I wondered out loud what the new crop of film photographers would think of contact sheets and how they would also need a lesson in how to use a film loupe, which is what you call the small contact sheet magnifier.

And if I'm not mistaken, such film loupes can also be used to view negatives.

Yeah, getting old can be fun and I can still learn stuff. I can also laugh at the young and I can laugh at the old, and I can even still laugh at old-ass myself.

Kinda cool, really.

me: oh i'll buy my brother in law some fancy coffee because he is a coffee snob! i did that last year and it was a hit so might as well do it again. i am not really a coffee person, so i'd better check on what to buy him. now, dear google, what are the best coffee beans i can buy online?

me, two weeks later, well into the rabbit hole with at least twenty tabs open: hm, i'm not sure about this washed ethiopian single-origin with notes of cherry, roses, and pomegranate. maybe the other anaerobic processed ethiopian beans would be better even though they can come out a lot funkier due to the experimental processing. oh, but this particular roaster has been degrading in quality over the past few months, so maybe it'd be better to go somewhere else.

me, a week later: wow i've bought myself a pour over drip brewer and some fancy coffee and i now have Strong Opinions about the best independent coffee roasters in the U.S. oh and i finally bought the two bags of coffee i originally planned to get that started all of this nonsense in the first place.

People would call you communist for this (lol) but the solution for the housing crisis we have all over is to set a minimum and maximum price per square meter that you can rent/sell a place for and that maximum price per meter should be adjusted so that it never exceeds a specific reasonable percentage of local salaries. Also, governments should be tougher on places not being fit to rent. No, you shouldn't be able to rent anything less than 45m² as 'a flat', that's either a room or a storage unit.

my new trench vase!! it's a tree trunk made from a german shell dated february 1916! specifically it was a 77 x 234 mm r manufactured by GeschossFabrik Spandau and fired by a 7.7 cm FK 96 n.A. likely on the western front. it was certainly a post war civilian creation judging by the crest that was left blank for tourists to inscribe their own initials on, but it was a steal and SO cool that i had to buy it :^)
